Measuring parenting in its local context
Measures developed in one setting may not capture parenting in another. This study develops a locally informed scale through interviews, focus groups, cognitive testing, and quantitative validation in high Andean Peru. Data from 2,274 mothers support distinct nurturing-belief and behaviour factors. Associations with stimulation, learning materials, and child development provide validity evidence, without establishing causal effects.
